Thousands of pre-service teachers from different universities in the Cordillera Administrative Region took part in the 2018 Student Teacher’s Congress held at King’s College of the Philippines, Pico, La Trinidad, Benguet on March 23, 2018.

Guided by the theme “Empowering Pre-service Teachers for the Licensure Examination for Teachers and for the Workplace,” Dr. Joselito Gutierrez, President, PAPSET; Faculty Saint Louis University discussed the Six Tips to Top the Board Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers; followed by Dr. Bernardita Ayunon, Dean College of Teacher Education, University of Baguio with the topic Philippine Professional Standards for Teachers who gave a thought to ponder, “Once a teacher, forever a student.” and Dr. Francisco Copsiyan, Head of DepEd discussed the topic Hiring Guidelines for Teacher 1 Position.

“The word that struck me there is the word empowering, an empowered individual is like a king because you would know that you have the power, so as pre-service teachers and as teachers in the future, you should really feel like a king where we should consider our students not as our crosses but as our crowns. A king would have a crown,” says Dr. Caridad Pagaduan when asked about the ideas she learned from the congress.

Using the hash tag “HanggangWakas,” participants from different schools namely: Easter College, University of the Cordilleras, Baguio Central University, Saint Louis University, University of Baguio, Benguet State University, Cordillera Career Development College and the King’s College of the Philippines participated until the end of the program with the purpose of strengthening the unity and cooperation amongst schools and to introduce the new Philippine Professional Standard for Teachers to further improve the educators’ qualification skills.

A sign of contentment and joy was written on the face of the student teachers’ starting from the different intermission numbers which showcased different talents and the discussion, they didn’t just learned but they also gained new friends.
