Joven C. Wadwachan, fifth year Geodetic Engineering student of the Baguio Central University, landed second place in Photojournalism-English during the 17th Luzonwide Higher Education Press Conference (17th LHEPC) held at Hotel Supreme, Magsaysay Avenue, Baguio City last February 28 to March 2, 2018.
In a personal message, Wadwachan revealed how he prepared himself prior to his winning.
“Upon seeing my contest schedule, it was apparently tiring. The contest was divided into three sessions unlike other contests – lecture, contest proper, layouting and captioning. Despite that, gasgas man pakinggan, all it took me is 20% support, 80% preparation and effort, and 100% total faith in God,” he said.
Wadwachan qualified in the LHEPC after he bagged first place in Layouting and fifth place in Photojournalism-English during the 19th Regional Higher Education Press Conference (RHEPC) held at the Baguio-Benguet Community Credit Cooperative (BBCCC) last November 30 to December 2, 2017.
“Despite having my name mispronounced during the awarding, it was ecstatic and devastating in a very good way. I’ve never imagined winning in a Luzonwide competition,” he added.
Photojournalism lecturer and contest judge was Mr. Rem Zamora, Photo Editor of the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Bearing this year’s theme, “#No Filter: Averting False Media through Ethical Journalism,” 17th LHEPC was organized by the Association of Luzonwide Tertiary Press Advisers (ALTPA) in coordination with the Commission on Higher Education.
